India's embassy has acknowledged the matter and assured that it's being investigated at "appropriate levels," but Begum's story raises more questions than answers about the loopholes in our system that allow such atrocities to happen.

Begum was lured by false promises of a well paying job, only to find herself trapped in situations that are barely short of modern day slavery.
